Listen as your child astonishes you with his/her newfound ability to create musical compositions. Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate transition to musically succeed before taking on more formal instruction. Kindermusik provides the opportunity to explore voice development, rhythm, notation, musical symbols and authentic pre-keyboard, string and woodwind instruments.
Young Child helps every child develop a confident, joyful voice for singing and speaking as well as essential building blocks for a future of learning. Designed for children ages 5 through 7 years, classes meet once a week for 60 minutes (with adults joining for the last 10 minutes). Students explore many facets of the musical experience-speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening, creating and playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and writing music. As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.

Fall 2008 - Semester One’s focus and content includes beat versus no-beat, percussion instruments, brass instruments, melodic direction, exploring the staff, and notation. The glockenspiel, a pre-keyboard instrument, is also introduced. This is the first of four semesters in the Young Child curriculum. Student materials include: a full-color folder with pictures, songs, and activity pages, Music at Home cards, games bag, stickers, CD, songbook, glockenspiel, and a canvas tote bag.

Spring 2009 - Semester Two builds on the concepts introduced in Semester One. We will explore string and woodwind instruments, notation, concepts such as piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo, and legato/staccato. Children love applying their new knowledge of aural skills, and reading and writing music notation as they further develop their glockenspiel skills. Materials (for continuing students) include a folder with pictures, songs and activity pages, music at home cards, games bag, CD, and songbook.

Fall 2008 - Semester Three builds on the child’s natural interest in musical instruments with an introduction to the two-stringed dulcimer! Learning about Appalachian music and the dulcimer’s heritage sets the stage for a sampling of Native American music. Other music concepts taught include call and response, improvisation, meter, notation, and a touch of Tchaikovsky. Student materials include: a full-color folder with pictures, songs, and activity pages, Music at Home cards, games bag, stickers, CD, songbook, and a dulcimer in a carry bag.

Spring 2009 - Semester Four is the final semester of this exceptional Kindermusik program. Together we will explore the sounds of wind with the introduction of the recorder. Students learn about verse and refrain, solos and chorus, and musical forms (ABA and Rondo). We will also review notation, rhythms, treble clef, and the complete C scale. Materials (for continuing students) include a folder with pictures, songs and activity pages, music at home cards, games bag, CD and songbook, and a recorder with carry bag.

Tuition is $280 per semester (includes materials and 15 classes). There is a $130 non-refundable deposit with registration, which applies toward the tuition and materials, leaving a balance of $150 due on or before the first day of class. Late registration is permitted, as long as space is available. Tuition will be prorated based on the number of class days remaining.
